Shetland youngsters got their hands on the Scottish Communities League Cup when it was flown into Shetland this week.

The trophy spent the night in the isles as part of a “wave of support trophy tour” to promote respect, responsibility and tolerance to football fans and families throughout Scotland.

The cup visited Bell’s Brae, Sound and Scalloway Primary Schools and Anderson High School on Wednesday, as well as being on display to the public in the evening at Clickimin. Yesterday it moved on to Sandwick and Dunrossness Primary Schools before heading back south on the Glasgow flight.

SIC sport and leisure executive manager Neil Watt added: “We are delighted that the trophy tour is visiting Shetland. Football is something every child can get involved in, be it taking part in community events, playing for local clubs or simply cheering on their favourite teams.

“Professional sports people are hugely influential, particularly among school-age children, and it’s great to be able to show off the positive impact football has in our community and inspire our kids to future success.”
