Shetland flags hang proudly over the Guardian Angell partners and family after the 26-metre whitefish trawler was named at Whitby on Saturday.
Shetland’s newest whitefish trawler the Guardian Angell (LK 272) was named by skipper Michael Henderson’s wife Wilma at the weekend at the port of Whitby in Yorkshire.
Over 100 family members and friends travelled to Whitby from the isles, and Yell in particular, to support Mr Henderson, together with partners Mark Hoseason and Lindsay Inkster of the Guardian Angell Fishing Company Ltd on their proud day.
Following the naming ceremony on Saturday the Guardian Angell was blessed by Lerwick Fishermen’s Mission superintendent Aubrey Jamieson.
Later in the day the guests attended a very enjoyable evening function at the Whitby Spa Pavilion.
Mr Henderson signed the contract for Parkol Marine Engineering to build the Guardian Angell on the opening day of the Skipper Expo at Aberdeen in 2014, so it is highly appropriate that the single rig whitefish trawler was named almost exactly 12 months on.
Designed by Ian Paton of S C McAllister & Co Ltd, the fully shelterdecked vessel features a S6R2 propulsion unit and Rapp Ecosse deck machinery.
