Drivers are being urged to take extra care today as the clean-up continues following yesterday’s heavy rainfall.

Damage and floods were caused across the county and Shetland Island’s Council roads engineers are working in several areas today.

  • The A968 has been closed at Dales Lees, Delting, north of the Collafirth Junction – the road is expected to open later today;
  • The Maywick road in Bigton is passable with care after the road was closed by due to a landslide at Vatster last night
  • The A970 at Levenwick is passable but is operating as a single track road with traffic lights.  Drivers should expect some delays while the road is being cleared. It is expected to open as normal this afternoon

Flooding caused by blocked drains, etc. has left debris on many roads, and drivers are being advised to take care as a matter of course, the SIC said in a statement issued this morning.
