GENERAL SITUATION AND SYNOPSIS 06:00 UTC
A NW’ly airflow will slowly ease today as a ridge moves in from the west. This will then decline with the airflow backing SW’ly ahead of an occluding warm front moving east towards the Northern Isles tonight.
The front will clear east around midday on Wednesday, the moderate SW’ly airflow veering W or NW’ly as it does so. The airflow will later back SW’ly as a weak ridge moves east overnight.
A strong S or SW’ly airflow will develop later on Thursday, as a small frontal disturbance tracks east across the north of Scotland and a cold front moves towards the Northern Isles. As this clears east and Atlantic high pressure ridges northeast across the UK Friday will see a showery SW’ly airflow across northern Scotland as.
Through the weekend and for much of next week a deep depression, forecast to develop south of Iceland and then move northeast into the Norwegian Sea, is likely to bring an unsettled and strong SW to W’ly airflow across northern Scotland.
